Wild Streak

I started to comment on Going Grey at Hoyden About Town, but it wouldn't send and its kinda long anyway, so here 'tis.

I've been going grey since I hit puberty, at 12. By that I mean I have had 1 grey hair on the right of my part since then. I would occasionally pluck It, because the adage is dumb. It would grow back, all by Its lonesome. I lightened my hair once, and dyed it black another, but not to cover the grey. At around 20, It started growing up high in a curve to come down and poke me in the eye, but I think that's because I was wearing my hair in an extremely tight bun with lots of hair gel (military). Either that, or it was all "Dammit, stop plucking me! Ahhh!!! I shall poke you!!!"

Oh goodness, I'm turning 25 this year. You might not think that's old, but I'm probably the only greying student in my freshman physics class. I've left the miltary and dyed my hair plum once last year.

Much to my joy, actually, my grey hair has been joined by a few close friends. I'm hoping they will get together to become one of those cute grey streaks. No way I'm dying it...unless purple strikes me again.

Well...Crap

So I got my physics exam back yesterday, 42%. Outch.
The test was WAY TOO LONG, AGAIN so that everyone had at least two questions they didn't have time to start, I actually had 4 I couldn't start, but on two of them I wrote bullshit down anyway and I'm sure others were the same way. So she gave us 8 points (equivalent of 1 problem). Then I went over my test with her and we found 7 whole points that she graded me wrong on. Yay, 57%. Man this sucks.

We finished The Hobbit today. I'm annoyed with myself because I completely missed the quiz question, which is mostly because I only skimmed the reading on Saturday, because I was "studying calculus" all weekend. Yeah, that's it. Oh, and I also went to see Beowulf, which you will like best if you haven't read the poem recently.

Then I had a calculus exam this morning, which I did not study enough for (yes, despite having the whole weekend). I feel pretty good about it though, mostly because I HAD TIME TO FINISH THE WHOLE THING and go back to catch little errors. Holy Crap, the concept! There's only one that I'm flat out sure I did wrong, and I'm guessing that I managed an 80%.

And then I missed my appointment for a haircut, and I need one badly. Where do I go?? NO MORE MASTERCUTS!

***Update***
Thanks to the nice lady at Hair Designers on Johnson St for staying at work a few minutes late and giving me a great haircut.

My Super Exciting Life

HI! How are you?!? Its been almost 2 weeks since I posted anything but links and stuff. I bet you're just dying to know how life is progressing.

I caught Rigel sleeping upside down from his Comfy Perch this week. I must get video somehow. *Dadadada dadadada Bat-BIRD!*

In Physics: I'm still struggling with setting up Conservation of Energy problems, but Conservation of Momentum makes so much more sense, so I'm having a better go of it. I'm getting good results in lab, even if it does take us a bit longer to setup. I'm nit-picky.

In Calculus: I've found that drawing graphs on printer paper with colored pencil is helping me understand volumes of revolution, plus going to tutoring every other day.

In British Liturature: We finished Beowulf last week, analyzed the new movie site, and and read some King Arthur stuff this week. On to Twelfth Night for next week.

If you haven't watched the new Bionic Woman, the 2nd episode is on Sci-Fi tonight. Watch it. You will love it. "How'm I doin now?" Michelle Ryan rocks, and so does Katee Sackhoff, but we knew that already. I'm in love with all the people putting strong, intelligent, non-anorexic women on television. I'm not in love with IMDB commenters, jerks.

Stargate Atlantis premiered their new season last Friday too. Not my favorite show, but worth watching. Jewel Staite is playing the new doctor (a tad young for it, but I can't not love her) and Amanda Tapping will be leading the city I think after next episode. I can't stand McKay, and I just can't wait for Col. Carter to knock him down a notch. Also, it means we might one day see the resolution of the Carter/O'Neill angst.

Doctor Who Series 3(?) is coming to a close this week, and I'm pretty excited. The finale story arc is 3 episodes, and I didn't know that at first. So at the end of the 1st one, I was thinking "Wow, that was a great cliffhanger for the season!" Then the commercial for the next week comes on and I'm thinking "Oh, sweet!" And then that happened again. So now, for sure, its the finale tonight, and I'm amped up.

Swiss Cheese Poop, has it really been 2 weeks since the bad haircut? Well, I'm a bit thankful for it because for the first time ever I can wear headbands. I look cute in headbands! My last memory of being forced to wear headbands involved a purple one digging into my skull for the sake of a family portrait. It was giving me a headache. My grandmother was, um, annoyed when I took it off. Did you know they make them with little silicone cushions now? I bought like 6 different ones, plus these ones that swoop back when they get to your ear, so they are so amazingly comfortable.

Bad Week, Bad Hair

This shitty week had better not follow me into the weekend. First, I failed my physics test. I don't mean failed as in I didn't get the grade I wanted, I mean I got 51/100 points possible. Shit.

Oh yeah, I also slid my tablet, face down, across the floor in my English class. The 3 inch long gash is quite lovely, really. *bangs head against wall*

Thursday I took a calculus test. I won't know how badly that stunk until Tuesday.

Then I got a Shitty McShitstain haircut.

Wet
Dry

"Styled" (by me, so not really)

Another Bad Haircut

I think I'm going to hire Becky to come down here and cut my hair, because really nobody else has a clue.

Of course it was Mastercuts again. My hair had grown out quite a bit and it just doesn't behave in mid-lengths. I wanted it at mid-cheek in front, and higher in the back (to avoid the flare-out tail I get). Instead, I now look exactly like I did right after I got to Okinawa, which means it looks like I had a boy-cut that grew out for 4 months. Great. Anyway, with a comb-headband-thingey it doesn't look entirely bad. I guess I have a reason to wear those now.

Here's a brief review of past bad haircuts. Its now just a little shorter, especially in the back, than this first shot:

No, I can't wear that top, or the shorts I was in that day, anymore. I can't believe I ever could!

John Mayer's O-Face

Rigel and I are sitting here watching Live Earth together. I was going to bring him out of his cage, but he squawked at me. I know I need to bring him out anyway, but I'm just not there yet.

I love John Mayer's music, and its pretty fitting for the concert. He also makes the oddest faces when he plays.

Can I just say that I never had any idea who Shakira was. And I still don't care, because this is a whole lotta shit. The emphasis she puts on things makes it impossible to know what she's saying, even though I'm fairly certain its english. So basically the song boils down to "look at how I can move in these high-heeled boots." But she looks incredibly awkward and uncomfortable, as if its me dancing, and that's never good. Eh. Gag.

Hair. In. Face. Must. Kill.

Melissa Etheridge, I think you're great. So please understand, this is not a song. Please sing. That was quite a rant. I mean I agree, but still. Singing is your creative outlet, so sing, and leave the speeches to...

Hi Al Gore (wow he seems excited)

Okay, I don't know Alecia Keys either, but I like the opening instrumental. Playing some oldies? I didn't expect her to play her own piano either. Off to iTunes to see if I like any of her regular songs.

Someone tell me what Dave Matthews Meant when he said "Its a great honor to follow Jane Goodall." Maybe a little dig at Madonna? Anyway, I <3 Dave Matthews Band. Note to drummer: The stick-in-a-drum sound was neat, until you overdid it. At which point we become aware that we make the exact same sound with a straw and plastic lid. OH! Maybe that's part of the message, the sound of disposable goods.

Somehow my spaces don't show up until I type the next character. You have no idea what I mean, but I promise its pretty annoying.

Some Heck of a Day

My friend Sarah's kittycat Othello has been sick for awhile. Today we went to the vet to be there with him while he was put to sleep. I've never been there for anything like that. All my family's pets died when I wasn't around, most with no advance warning. It was much more unpleasant that I even thought. Everyone give Sarah big hugs, she is very sad.

In other news.

Yesterday was a pretty good birthday. If only I didn't have to sit around waiting rooms being ignored so I could outprocess. But once I got home things got better. I hung out with Sarah because Michael was waiting for my gift to be delivered, then we all went to Bonsai Garden for some pretty decent food. I had some sake and they brought out a slice of cheesecake for me. Weir got me a strange gift, an iPet. It dances to my music and purrs when you pet it. We then headed over to the bar for some drinks. Pretty good time.

This morning I had to get up early to ride with Michael, so I could pick up my car. I spent about 3 hours off and on waiting for stuff to be sorted out. I'm finally ready for tomorrow's final-out appointment. Geesh. I did get some reading done, but it turns out I've already read this book. To finish or not to finish???? Eh.

After class I ran to the grocery store and picked up lotsa good food. I just made pizzas on tomato-basil tortilla wraps, very tastygood.

I also got a haircut this afternoon. Not the best, but I figure Becky can help me out with a really great cut when I come home in May, so I'm not worried about it.

I Smell Bad

I just got back from running a bit, so I smell kinda funky.
Thought you should know.

Traci, I'll see you tomorrow probably around noon. Yay!

We put the deposit on a new apartment yesterday. It is very nice, and we move in next Saturday. Its going to be a busy few weeks. We decided to not transfer our land line, but to cancel it. We are going tonight to get cellphones. The cheapest phones I can get. I hate cellphones. Help me please.

First, after a quick shower, I'm off to the post office to send out my hair clippings and a box I really meant to send off a few months ago. Seriously, who puts me in charge of stuff, and what drugs are they on?

Speaking of being on drugs, I stopped taking the Vicadin and Ibuprophin they gave me for my gums. I think it was making me feel quesy, and my gums don't hurt that bad now. They did hurt a bit yesterday after he took the stitches out. Okay, alot of hurting, but I can take it. There are only a few pills left anyway, but I can take them if it starts hurting for some reason.

Oh, even though I ran today, it wasn't for my test. The only female who could measure my waist went home sick today, so I put off my leave 2 days for nothing. I have to test next Thursday, after I've been on leave (read: not exercising) for a week.

:( darn it all to heck :(

Before and After...

Before and After...

The second picture is after I chopped off the length to donate to Locks of Love, but before I went to the stylist. Here's a couple pics of me chopping my hair off:

And now, I will show you the absolute best haircut I've ever had, which I love, and which only cost me ten dollars:

I don't like this picture as much. Not because of the hair, but because I look awkward. Is that how you spell awkward, or is it akward, or ackward, or more meds for me? I dunno, but here is a picture for Carol.

Random Info

So it snowed today. In Texas. I didn't believe the forecast, but there you go. It snowed off and on all morning.

To Do List:

I finally have all the stuff for the care package I'm sending out. I think the box is too small, and I don't have the address.
Address in hand, now its Sunday. Dammit.

Its time to register for the Spring semester, and fill out paperwork to be a degree-seeking student, and also begin putting together my request so I don't have to do this job for 3 months.
Oops. Return the library books and pay the late fee, so they will lift the hold on registration.

I should find something to wear for Saturday's holiday party.
That was NOT fun. The shopping. Party was great.

I have a dental appointment next Thursday. (I won't have to work on Friday!)

I have a fitness test in two weeks.

We have pamphlets from the 3 apartments we put our names in for, but we should look at a few more just in case.

Its becoming obvious that we need to replace our land line with two cell phones, and I need to research the best plans in our area.

My car will need new base registration stickers next month. I went to do it today, but they are out of stickers.

Also, I'm going to make an appointment for a haircut, but this is why I'm scared:
Whatever, I woke up this morning and my hair was wrapped around my neck choking me, so the crap is going away!

The Funeral

I keep saying I will post on this, so I guess I should. Its not like I have studying to do or anything.

Since I was very young, I had a perfectly distinct memory of attending a funeral. Many of the details have faded with time. Here is what I remember now. I walked in with my mother, into a room that was almost as skinny as a hallway. Approximately the width of a person's height, because there was just room for the casket at one end. As you walk in, the room is divided in half by the door, casket on the left. On the right-side, the room ended with white posts, strait across. As if people could peek in, without entering the door. The chairs were along each wall, facing inward. Mom had me sit in a chair to the right of the room, while she went to view the deceased. I remember looking at the wallpaper(obviously not the same pattern, but similar idea) bordering the ceiling. I remember the frilly little dress I was wearing, with the ribbon woven through the waist. I remember Mom asking if I wanted to go up and say goodbye.

Several years later, our family piled into the minivan and headed for some town North of St. Joe, to attend the funeral of a man who (to me) was a distant relative. I don't remember who. Someone mentioned offhand that this would be my first funeral. Obviously they had forgotten that I attended the one so long ago?? I insisted. My mother was certain. I described every detail. Do you remember Mom?? You finish the story.

Of course, maybe she was just screwing with me. She's like that sometimes.

***BORING UPDATE***
Well, Mom is no fun. She's gonna pretend she never said that that was a perfect description of a funeral SHE attended when SHE was little BEFORE I was born. That's what she said in the van that day. But now? No fun. Maybe she's just pissy because I posted those pictures of HER HAIR the other day.

Your Opinions?

Do you guys think I should cut my hair? Its so long and pretty now, but I never do anything with it. It just sits in a big bun all day until I go home, or until the weekend. Then its always in the way, and I shed like crazy. You have no idea the places we have found stray hairs.

But the last time I chopped my hair... well, some of you remember that. Me no likey the Winona Ryder lookalike thing. And long hair is so much easier to manage than short hair, when I wake up in a rush. Just tuck it all away and its pretty much ok. I just have no idea how to make short hair look nice anyway. Then there's mid-length hair....ugh. Maybe I've just been getting the wrong haircuts for my face? I have no idea.

If I cut it, I would want to get some pictures taken first. I want to get pictures taken anyway. I've been married nearly 3 years, and I don't have any formal pictures with Michael. We were talking about going to JCPenny last weekend, but I got caught up in stuff and forgot. Now my car is acting weird and I'm taking it to be looked at tomorrow. Hopefully it can make it until then, so I can get to and from work and also make it to the auto shop. So I don't know how much that's going to cost.
