The Song...

This is what happens when chatting, YouTube, and blogging converge. I really was in bed, when I got to thinking about what my favorite country music song is. I finally decided I wasn't going get to sleep until I did something about it. So, I'll be the zombie riding to school in the morning, man its late.

While Third Rock From the Sun is plenty good and funny, it isn't my favorite, and it doesn't represent the kind of country music I love. Here's Trisha Yearwood with The Song Remembers When. (lyrics here)

It was like a lighted match had been tossed into my soul
It was like a dam had broken in my heart
...
After driving out the memory
Of the way things might have been
...
But that's just a lot of water
Underneath a bridge I burned
And there's no use in backtracking
Around corners I have turned
Still I guess some things we bury
Are just bound to rise again

I also like her more recent Georgia Rain.(lyrics here) Really, almost anything she sings is wonderfully sadly sexy sentimental. I guess that's just how I am.

Barefoot in the bed of your truck
on a blanket lookin' up
half a moon peekin' down at us
from underneath the clouds.
...
I don't remember what was poundin more
the heart in my chest or the hood of that Ford
as the sky fell in and the storm clouds poured
worlds away outside

Uninspired Tidbits

I think it is time to start learning what kind of music I like. I think I'll put some effort into that. We'll see.

I finally got ahold of the people holding my bird's new stuff hostage. There was a(nother) huge mixup in the shipment. They are sending a 110% refund. I now have to find someone else who sells Clicker training stuff. Frustrating.

I think Rigel understands "stay." It totally worked today, I could tell he really wanted to fly to me while I was in the kitchen, but didn't. Such a good boy. He deserves new toys so much.

There's plenty of food, but nothing to eat. I must plan actual meals before shopping. Must. As much as I like what I eat, the same thing is getting kind of old.

I made granola the other day. I was surprised by how simple it is, nothing special at all. Definitely not worth the arm, two legs, and my ex-husband's left testicle that it costs at the grocery store. Next stop, home-made granola bars.

It has been suggested that I change my last name to Dax, instead of going back to my original. *ponders*

In the last two weeks, I have biked 54.10 miles. I have gone grocery shopping twice. The first time was for the barbecue, and I hauled a bag of charcoal in my left pannier, groceries in the right, and an extra bag on my right arm. Stopping was educational.

The summer class is going well, minus some annoying group project stuff I will never do again. I think I'm pretty good at this technical writing thing.

Sonic's chicken strips aren't that good, definitely not worth over a dollar per strip.

I shouldn't drink cherry limeade before bed. I am tired, but wide awake.

Eh. That is all.

Bird Chatter

Rigel loves to chatter, sort of in the same rhythm as my voice when I talk to him. Not if I talk to him, but if I'm talking to someone else, like on the phone or to Michael or the person repairing the screens. He's all: "HI! I'm HERE! I'm part of the GROUP! This is FUN! Talking is EXTREMELY FUN!" Then I say something directly to him and he's all "Ok, I'm listening intently."

High-Larious.

He also has different voices for chatter and for whistling. He doesn't whistle. I whistle and he chatters in a lower, more breathy voice. I'm so glad I got all that orthodontic treatment, so I can whistle to my parrot.

He's now to the point where he "says" Prettybird and Step-Up. Kind of like a parent "knows" their toddler is saying Mama.

He also likes to vocalize to music and/or to me singing with him. He loves the Farscape Theme.

The key to getting any of this on video is, apparently, to make the camera invisible in some way or make the music so loud that it keeps the camera from really hearing him. I totally understand, I hate the sound of my recorded voice, too. Which is why you will not be viewing any of us singing "Shake-Shake-Shake, Shake-Shake-Shake, Shake your boo-ty." Ever.

Tone-deaf Geek

I bought 25 or so Geeky tracks from iTunes today. Plus some that aren't geeky but I just wanted them, and two parrot-related tracks. Is it bad that I want my parrot to learn the theme songs to my favorite SF shows? I didn't think so. I also wish to point out that Chemical Calisthenics is the funniest geek-rap I've ever heard. No, I don't know that geek-rap is a genre, or that there are more like it. Begone.

John Mayer's O-Face

Rigel and I are sitting here watching Live Earth together. I was going to bring him out of his cage, but he squawked at me. I know I need to bring him out anyway, but I'm just not there yet.

I love John Mayer's music, and its pretty fitting for the concert. He also makes the oddest faces when he plays.

Can I just say that I never had any idea who Shakira was. And I still don't care, because this is a whole lotta shit. The emphasis she puts on things makes it impossible to know what she's saying, even though I'm fairly certain its english. So basically the song boils down to "look at how I can move in these high-heeled boots." But she looks incredibly awkward and uncomfortable, as if its me dancing, and that's never good. Eh. Gag.

Hair. In. Face. Must. Kill.

Melissa Etheridge, I think you're great. So please understand, this is not a song. Please sing. That was quite a rant. I mean I agree, but still. Singing is your creative outlet, so sing, and leave the speeches to...

Hi Al Gore (wow he seems excited)

Okay, I don't know Alecia Keys either, but I like the opening instrumental. Playing some oldies? I didn't expect her to play her own piano either. Off to iTunes to see if I like any of her regular songs.

Someone tell me what Dave Matthews Meant when he said "Its a great honor to follow Jane Goodall." Maybe a little dig at Madonna? Anyway, I <3 Dave Matthews Band. Note to drummer: The stick-in-a-drum sound was neat, until you overdid it. At which point we become aware that we make the exact same sound with a straw and plastic lid. OH! Maybe that's part of the message, the sound of disposable goods.

Somehow my spaces don't show up until I type the next character. You have no idea what I mean, but I promise its pretty annoying.

Like a frakking motorcycle.

This is probably more honest than I should be. Oh well.

I was a bit surprised this morning when I woke up alone in bed. No no, he usually leaves for work before I wake up. Its just that I woke up and he wasn't unconscious, or even dead. Turns out, I didn't fly into a homicidal rage and kill him in the night. Surprised? Me too.

No amount of shaking, prodding, loud 'relaxation' music, getting up and turning on the light to take Tylenol PM, yelling, tossing or turning would Make. It. Stop. I finally had to resort to pulling the iPod out of the radio and putting on my headphones.

I had to sleep with headphones on. Do you understand?

I keep telling him to stop sleeping on his side. Not just on his side, but half on his own face. The snoring is horrible, and he is always complaining about his shoulders hurting. Well, duh. Last night I really tried everything to get him to turn onto his back. He was literally immovable. The moment I finally settle in with the headphones? Rolls over on his own and the snoring lowers to a dull wheeze. Clearly he was doing it on purpose, for over an hour, just to piss me off.

Will he see a doctor? No. Is it because we don't have health insurance? NO, we have the benefit of military healthcare, F-R-E-E!* He won't see a doctor because he wants to be pummeled to death in the night. He hasn't said so, but its really the only logical conclusion.

*-ish. We pay our taxes, just like you.

Please enjoy the geekiness.

Just because I love love love the Season 1 opening for BSG, I will share:
In Sanskrit:
Oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ
Tat savitur vareṇyaṃ
Bhargo devasya dhīmahi
dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt

Alternatively:
Aum bhoor bhuwah swaha
Tat savitur varenyam
Bhargo devasaya dheemahi
Dhiyo yo naha prachodayat

Translation:
Oh God! Thou art the Giver of Life,
Remover of pain and sorrow,
The Bestower of happiness,
Oh! Creator of the Universe,
May we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light,
May Thou guide our intellect in the right direction

Also here is a BSG Season 2 Trailer - very nice! British?

They put their trust in me
To lead them to salvation
To earth

But the truth is
We're on the brink of extinction
Our enemy is amongst us

Lies are tearing us apart
Suspicion and doubt will be the downfall of humanity
Because trust, trust will betray you

I think I'm in love with you

The world looks mighty good to me
'cause Tootsie Rolls are all I see
Whatever it is I think I see
Becomes a Tootsie Roll to me
Tootsie Roll how I love your chocolatey chew
Tootsie Roll I think I'm in love with you
Whatever it is I think I see
Becomes a Tootsie Roll to me.

Who can take a sunrise
Sprinkle it with dew
Cover it in choc'late and a miracle or two
The Candy Man
Oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can
'Cause he mixes it with love
And makes the world taste good

Who can take a rainbow
Wrap it in a sigh
Soak it in the sun and make strawb'ry leman pie
The Candy Man
Oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can
'Cause he mixes it with love
And makes the world taste good

BRIDGE:
The Candy Man makes
Everything he bakes
Satisfying and delicious
Oh, talk about your childhood wishes
You can even eat the dishes

Now who can take tomorrow
Dip it in a dream
Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream
The Candy Man
Oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can
'Cause he mixes it with love
And makes the world taste good

The Candy Man makes
Everything he bakes
Satisfying and delicious
Now talk about your childhood wishes
You can even eat the dishes

Who can take tomorrow
Dip it in a dream

Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream
The Candy Man
Oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can
'Cause he mixes it with love
And makes the world taste good
The Candy Man can
Cause he mixes it with love
And makes the world taste good

Candy Man
Candy Man
Candy Man

The Candy Man can
Cause he mixes it with love
And makes the world taste good

Tell me can spare some..

Ok, I got the lyrics a little wrong, so check out the difference, but I'm not going to change them here. I went out to the band's page and wow! Ardency Rue and Ardency Rue Site Lyrics

its no wonder, the things i did
the things you said, were running through my head

So far away, where have you been?
who have you told, and what did they say?

for rare occasions i have seen your face
i am blown away to the time and place
when i held you close and you touched my hand
and i could take that place in time

if i told the truth?

would you take a chance?

its no wonder the things you did
things i said were running through your head

rare occasions when i see your face
i am blown away to the time and place
when i held you close and you touched my hand
and i could take that place in time

baby i just need a little love
well tell me can you say so
baby i just need a little love

rare occasions when i see your face
i am blown away to the time and place
when i held you close and you touched my hand
and i could take that place in time

i could take that

baby i just need a little love
can you say so
lemme hear you say so

the best i can tell on the lyrics to my profile song, which i keep playing over and over and over and overand over and over and overand over and over and overand over and over and overand over and over and over baby i jus t need a little love...lemme hear you say so...

Best. Birthday. Ever.

I had a really awesome birthday today. Everyone was so nice at work, haha everyone kept telling me "don't do that, its your birthday" "dont sweep the floor on your birthday" and "why are you even here?" hehehe. I got hugs. Michael called me at work. He remembered!!! So proud of my sweet boy.

I got about 6 people to have dinner with me at PF Chang's, but there was a 1 1/2 hour wait, so we tried this Mitchell's Seafood and Bar or something. All I know is it was just a neat experience. We sat in the lounge and I saw there was a piano, how cool. Then someone started playing it!!! How cool is that??!!! I had my birthday dinner to piano music! Then there was the food....ahh the nummy food. Lobster Bisque. Shrimp. And Volcano Java Jive, with candles. And did I mention the piano? There was a guy playing piano. He played the song from the old Willie Wonka movie, "In a world of pure imagination...." Chocolate Martini. And a PIANO!

Amy should be an detective. She saw the pic on my background and started asking questions like...would you ever print it and frame it? Oh yeah, what size do you think? I think silver frame would go nice, don't you think? Hahaha she got me a nice silver frame for my picture. Someone else paid for my dinner, which had to be alot since I'm about to burst at the seams. How sweet are these people?

We decided to skip the movie, since we are all tired and full and have to work tomorrow. Goodnight all. And thank you all my myspace friends who wished my a happy birthday. And thank you Mommy for being my Mommy.

New Year 2006

Original: December 31, 2005 - Saturday
We have absolutely nothing to do for tonight.
This New Year's Eve is gonna suck.
I'm pretty boring.

To Which Chloe Commented:
We have no plans yet either, except to drink a bottle of wine (Fat Bastard Shiraz) that was sent by Craig's brother. I think we will go to a bar of some sort. Maybe a gay bar, although I hesitate, because Craig's so damn pretty that I'll be fighting middle-aged queens off all night. In any event, even if we stay in, I'm dressing up to the 9's, and that's what I suggest to you. Look fabulous. That's the best way to begin the New Year, no matter where you are!

These seemed to go together:
Original: December 31, 2005 - Saturday

I would dress up like Chloe suggested but, eh, Michael wouldn't play along and I'm in a pretty grumpy mood at the moment. We just spent some time driving around this crappy town looking for something to do. We think everyone is either at Graham's Central Station (never ever stooping that low) or at private parties. So we ate at IHOP, chilled out at Hastings for a bit (bought the Firefly soundtrack), picked up some booooozzzzeee, and now we're home watching the ball drop on tv in about an hour.
Considering all the crap that happened this year, and how utterly worthless the year has been as far as progressing in anything that matters to me or doing anything fun, I'm just ready for it all to be over and start anew. Beyond selfishness, the rest of the world has had a pretty (can I say crap again? well I'm gonna) crappy time of it too. If I could erase this year I would.

So, my resolution for the year? Do something I can care about, that holds some damn meaning for me, and have a damn life for once.

Oh, the Barnaked Ladies are on CNN singing "It's all been done" I love that song, it feels so right.

You see her confidence is tragic, but her intuition magic, and the shape of her body , unusual

Even though I was only in my math class about 1/4 of the time since the last test, due to scheduling problems, I think I did fairly well on this one. You know what I can never remember how to do? Those problems where you have a percentage of one thing, and percentage of another, and then you gotta figure out how to make so many pounds of a certain percentage mixture. Skipped that one entirely. Don't try to use percent signs in your bloggy, screws things up.
Still have to do the homework due tomorrow, which I had a week to do. Also, I didn't study for the test. Yup, flyin' by the seat of my pants at this point. At least I'm not starting this homework at like 10pm. I get really confused trying to do calculus at midnight. And pissy, really pissy. Sing with me "She only does cal-cu-lus at midnight, when the moment is not right, and the timing is quite un-u-sual..." lalalala.

Actually, I like that song.

Dancing away, buhbyenow.
